Dr. Gloria Ramirez is Associate Professor at the Faculty  Education and Social Work at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, BC, Canada. Dr. Ramirez brings varied research expertise focusing on culturally and linguistically diverse student populations. Her research examines language and literacy development in learners from diverse language backgrounds, disadvantaged socioeconomic backgrounds, and experiencing difficulties with literacy. She also investigates effective methods for teaching reading to children from these vulnerable populations. Her recent work has appeared in the Journal of Applied Psycholinguistics, Reading and Writing, Topics in language Disorders, and Journal of Learning Disabilities. She has a strong background in experimental designs and quantitative research methods and is comfortable navigating a variety of qualitative research paradigms and approaches. Over the past nine years, Dr. Ramírez has been collaborating with Secwepemc communities in revitalizing Secwepemctsín.
